Hairfall- the worst nightmare

Good hair instantly lifts our mood. This is the power and importance associated with the appearance of hair. Bad hair day always put a damper on our mood, it is so dreadful to see precious hair locks to fall.

Hair loss and hair thinning has become the most common hair issues in majority of people now-a-days. There are various factors behind it, some blame their genes or hormonal changes, for others it’s the chemicals present in their hair styling and coloring products.

It is serious and you should know some measures to eliminate it from the roots. Should you try any medications or shampoos? This is not the only solution. Dig down and know some facts:

Understand hair fall             

You should first know the dissecting structure of your hair strands. A single hair follicle anchors each strand of hair into the skin, and a hair bulb forms the base of the hair follicle. Inside this hair bulb, living cells divide and grow to build the hair shaft. The blood vessels nourish these cells in the hair bulb and deliver hormones that modify hair growth and hair structure at different times of life.

Some complaints always come in the bucket list, like “my hair doesn’t grow at the rate it should be”. This happens because hair tends to grow at different rates in different people. On an average, it grows around one-half per month. And hair fall is common, on an average, you can lose up to 100 strands of hair in a day so please don’t panic. Since, on average, you can lose up to 100 strands of hair in a day, how can you figure out if you’re genuinely losing more hair than what is considered normal?

It’s a complicated one to know but for most people, the rate of hair new hair growth is such that it compensates for the daily loss of hair. But in some cases, this cycle of hair growth and shedding is disturbed when the hair follicles that we talked about earlier in this section get destroyed and replaced by scar tissues.

Symptoms of hair fall

Common symptoms that are easily noticeable- hair thinning on the top of the head, visible hair loss while doing hair parting and bald spots in the front are the clear indications. Additionally, if you find excessive hair than usual on the hairbrush after you brush your hair or more than the usual amount of hair in the drain after washing your hair, these are also signs of hair loss.

How to control hair fall?

  1. Cleansing and conditioning

Some of the people use soap for cleansing their scalp and hair which causes so many problems for hair and scalp health. As soaps are too harsh and strips of the essentials oils. We should always use a mild shampoo that doesn’t harm the natural oils and maintains the pH balance.

As for conditioning, simply washing the hair with shampoo will not do, a good conditioner should be applied on 3/4th of the hair (avoiding the scalp). Most conditioners contain Amino acids, which help to nourish and repair the hair and reduce frizz and breakage of hair. There is no set frequency of hair washing that we can recommend, since it really depends on the individual’s hair type and how fast the scalp becomes oily after washing. 

  1. Diet and exercise

It is necessary to include food items that is enriched with vitamin A, C, D and E, iron, zinc, vitamin, biotin, protein and essential fatty acids.

  1. Avoid harmful treatments

Chemical treatments are trendy but one of the main reasons to hamper the health of hair and scalp. Avoid using hair color or dyes with chemicals and switch to the natural ones. For dying your hair chemically, bleaching is usually required, which is terrible for the health of your hair.
