What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite - a term used for formation of lumps and dimples in the skin. The uneven skin that can be seen on hips, thighs, abdomen or buttocks. Common names for cellulite are orange peel skin, cottage cheese skin, hail damage and mattress phenomenon. It can affect both men and women. It is more common in women as their distribution of fat cells, muscles and connective tissues are different than in men.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite is fat that is building up its blocks underneath the skin. Some women are inclined to it than others. The fact cells and connective tissues are vertically arranged in the women’s body and in a criss- cross structure in men’s body. That is why men’s are less likely have the chances of cellulite as the fat cells stick out into the skin layer and forms cellulite.

The amount of cellulite a person have depends on :

Most of the estimate’s states that 80%-90% of women get cellulite at some time after their puberty. The condition gets more common as they get older. The skin gets thinner and looser in the women’s age, so cellulite becomes more likely to show and more likely to show on lighter-skinned women.

 Some tips to make cellulite less visible:

 Workout Smartly

Just don’t eat and sleep. Make a habit of moving as well. It is one the treatment to make cellulite less visible. The strong muscles under lumpy areas will make your skin look more even. Focus on a healthy diet, brisk exercise, better life style and moves that tones your muscles. You can also enroll in exercise programs like aerobics, Zumba and strength training.

 Clean and Healthy Eating Habits

Eat more fiber like whole grains, fruits and vegetables instead of fancy food with high calories. As the refined carbohydrates in breads, candy, junk food and soft drinks add on to calories. This leads to fat, especially in cellulite – prone areas. A healthy diet can helps in maintain body weight. Processed and high sugar foods just leads the count and adds on to the accumulation of toxins and fat in the body. Keep yourself hydrated as water is the best source to remove toxins that can cause cellulite.  Try to reduce the amount of toxins you let your body gulped through diet and lifestyle changes. It includes avoiding things like alcohol and smoking.

Massage the affected area

Take out few minutes for yourself. Give these cellulite areas a firm rubdown. Try it in the shower or when you apply lotion. Massage helps to improve the blood flow and get rid of the excess fluid and make cellulite less noticeable. Or you can take hire a professional massage therapist.

 Dry brushing

This technique will remove dead skin cells and stimulates new cell growth as well. It supports detoxification. You can use a natural plant loofah to gently smooth dry the skin for few minutes. Start from the feet and then move upwards. This is best done before bath.


Use coffee grounds to exfoliate as it is a popular way to remove dead cells. It also encourages growth of new cell and tightens the skin. You can mix coffee grounds either of these- coconut oil, olive oil or sugar. Gently rub over the affected area for few minutes. Keep it for at leat 10 minutes on you skin and then rinse it off.

Body Wrap

A body wrap can tighten and smooth your skin for a while. The effects last about a day, and costs vary. A body shaper or an elastic bandage wrapped around your cellulite zones might give you spa results for less cash.
